Introduction

Mar. 17th, 2008 | 03:01 am

In March of 2008, I started DMing another D&D campaign.  For those unfamiliar with these terms, I essentially was the judge in a series of complex improv sessions.  You may still enjoy reading this campaign journal, but it is meant primarily for those familiar with D&D.

Those people who are familiar with D&D may notice that my campaign differs from those they have experienced in the past.  This is due to several house rules in effect.  For the curious, I will list them here.  Everyone else, feel free to skip down to the next post, where things ought to get more interesting.

One last note: if you see anything in this campaign journal that you'd like to use for a campaign or character of your own, feel free to take it.  I'm requesting the favor of a comment stating the idea you liked, though.  That'll let me know which sorts of things I should continue with, and which sorts I can cull from future campaigns.

The players started in Lightfeather (one of the most inland colonies) about six months after the last entry was penned, having been together as a group and getting quite well known as the “go-to guys” for the area’s big problems.

Items

Mar. 14th, 2008 | 03:00 am

Despite the world's dampening effect on magic, the PC's were each in possession of one functional magic item—how they got it varied from character to character.  Each was custom-designed by me, though I took some inspiration from published sources (quite a bit for the reins).  Lo Pital's is the only one unknown to the other players—as a beguiler, he gets a few secrets at least.  Since they know about this journal, I'll post his only after it's revealed.

Each character also got nonmagical gear; mithril armor was supplied for everyone (even Lo, since his class lets him cast in light armor), as were masterwork weapons.  In this setting, nonmagical items made from rare metal aren't that hard to find.  Each character got a few other nonmagical items they needed (a saddle for Sua, etc), and then 50 gold to spend on the mundane item list in the PH.

Session 1, Part 1

Mar. 13th, 2008 | 02:59 am

This session was shorter than I'd hoped, since we spent the first two hours getting everyone together and finishing characters.  (It had been a long Friday night, and everyone slept in, including me.)
